aim 1: router design 1

CNC machine........ 24/06/2019

1.find what model of CNC machine we got. 2. learning autocad 3. learning about cam 4. problem is that there is a lot of shapes of pills and they need to have a router made for them ·         Design o      Size… if small or big? Design to me measured in CM o    How many teeth does the router need to have? Size of the router teeth? Size of the router gaps? o    Material used or to use in design? Search possible materials to use in the router 5. cost of manufacture 6. time taken in manufacturing 7. How precise are the designs and if there are any errors 8. 60 designs if possible 9. make a varying program that can design you a router by just adding some measurements

AutoCAD to CNC

CAD  Software:  CAD  is drawing on the computer, but with measurements applied to the drawings. Use it to create and revise your designs.  CAD Software is how “blueprints” for parts are created in the  CNC  world. CNC  programming (Computer Numerical Control Programming) is utilized by manufacturers to create program instructions for computers to control a machine tool.  CNC  is highly involved in the manufacturing process and improves automation as well as flexibility. The image below is an example and possible design made in SolidWorks found online and this could be a possible router that could be used in the industry. What is autocad? AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design and drafting software application. Developed and marketed by Autodesk, AutoCAD was first released in December 1982 as a desktop app running on microcomputers with internal graphics controllers. AutoCAD is a 2-D and 3-D computer-aided drafting s...

CNC Programming

What is CNC? CNC  – Computer Numerical Control – Taking digitized data, a computer and CAM program  is used to control, automate, and monitor the movements of a machine. ... The  CNC  controller  works  together with a series of motors and drive components to move and control the machine axes, executing the programmed motions. What type of file do CNC machines uses? Every CNC setup is different, but there are general file formats that most machines support. The commonly accepted CAD formats for CNC machines: AI, PDF, DXF, DWG (for 2D files) STL, OBJ, DXF, STEP, IGES, DWG, 3DM (for 3D files) Steps to Create a CNC Drawing Creating a CNC program is a three phase process: 1. The part is drawn in a CAD(Computer Aided Design) drawing program such as AutoCAD.  2. Then a CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) program is used to convert the CAD drawing to G-Code. 3. Lastly, the G-code controls the CNC mill as it makes the part.  ...

Investigation 2

Here are other 4 possible solution to our problem GRP - Glass Reinforced Plastic hand lay up process: the most common and least expensive open-moulding method because it requires the least amount of equipment. Fibre reinforcements are placed by hand in a mould and resin is applied with a brush or roller. This process is used to make both large and small items, including boats, storage tanks, tubs and showers. The concerns regarding this method are that since it involves manual operating, there are safety hazards which need a level of supervision. It could be learnt after a  short training but takes time to perfect the craft and have an extremely good finished product. Rotational moulding : The rotational moulding process consists out of four phases-loading, heating, cooling, remove,  see image below. It all starts with filling the mould with powdered resin. The inside of this mould is the negative of the final product. The moulds are usually manufactured from...

Investigation

Now we have to investigate the relating methods and topics that possibly help us find a solution. The goal is to find the most efficient way to bring low volume, accurate, fast turn around manufacturing in house. 4 axis CNC Milling/Routing: CNC stands for Computer numerical control. Numerical control is the automated control of machining tools and 3D printers by means of a computer. An NC machine alters a blank piece of material (plastic or thermoformed plastic ) to meet precise specifications by following programmed instructions and without a manual operator. Computer Numerical Control is different from typical PCs in the type of software used to control the machine, which is specially customized and programmed with G-Code — a specific CNC machine language that allows precise control of features like speed, location, coordination and feed rate. A 4-axis CNC machine operates on the X,Y and Z axes like a 3-axis machine, but it also includes rotation around the X-axis, whi...

First meeting with the company

This blog will be an insight into our summer placement in a company which specialises in using automation to replace traditional manual-dispensing method, which is seen commonly behind the counter in pharmacies. 5/6 We arrived at the company. We were greeted by the company manager.we were given a tour around the office and being shown the robot that they used to store original pack medication in a managed space and to retrieve the packs at point of dispensing. Each type of pills is stored in a canister of its own. When an order comes in the system. It retrieves the necessary amount of pills from each canister and processed. (Usually, the patient needs to take multiple medications over a month or so, and also each drug may have different dosage, so maybe pill A needs to be taken two times a day -morning and evening and pill B only need to be taken once every two days. This brings importance to controlling the dosage and quantity of each pill as impreciseness of the dosage can...
